Making healthy lifestyle changes is not always easy, but any new habit starts with altering your mindset. If exercise is new territory for you, stay engaged with your routine by finding your inner athlete. After a few weeks, you’ll be surprised at how fit you are!
Start Slow – In order to make real progress, pick a starting point and allow for adjustments to your routine down the line. If you decide on one area to work on, it will be much easier to focus, and see positive changes sooner.
Have a Goal in Mind – Whether it’s the amount of time you want to be at the gym, how far you want to run or how much weight you’d like to lose, pick a number to help you stay on track. Measure your progress on paper to prove to yourself that your hard work is paying off!
Stay Realistic – Going from little or no activity to running a marathon probably won’t happen, so set small goals that you know you can reach. Seeing that you have the ability to meet your goals will keep you motivated to achieve more!
Do Appropriate Activities – If you’re trying to gain muscle, running a mile every day may not be as beneficial as weight lifting or other power-based exercises. Know what type of activities you need to be doing and how to do them so you can make the most of your efforts.
And try to set a deadline – if you set a weekly or monthly goal, you’ll be able to reflect on your progress and make adjustments if needed.
